Yeovil twice lead, before Dagenham pegged them back on both occasions. The Daggers then went ahead through Mark Stein, but Yeovil replied five minutes from time through Chris Giles to ensure a tight finish.
The first twenty minutes belonged to Dagenham as they came out of the blocks quickest and posed the greatest threat, both sides seemed to find it hard to break each other down. It was initially a game of caution, and many fans thought it was going to be another 0-0 like that with Rushden last April. However it was not to be the case, and Yeovil took the lead first.
Michael McIndoe was involved in a scuffle earlier on at the opposite end of the pitch; he was still fired up and latched onto Nick Crittenden's cross perfectly to head past Tony Roberts in the Dagenham goal. (1-0)
It did not take long for Dagenham to equalise. A neat move undid the Yeovil defence five minutes later, a ball into the area from Paul Terry was turned and Steve West slotted under Chris Weale to pull the scores level. Yeovil fans knew they were in for a game. (1-1)
However it only took Yeovil a minute to regain the advantage again. This time Adam Stansfield set up and shot perfectly after a Dagenham clearance from Lee Johnson's free kick. The crowd went wild. (2-1)
Towards the end of the first half Dagenham started to pressurise Yeovil, Chris Weale was forced to punch over the bar and give the visitors a corner. Luckily the corner was cleared and Yeovil eased through the three minutes of injury time with the half time advantage.
The second half started with Yeovil the smarter of the two teams, retaining the early possession, but Gary Hill had clearly given his side a tanning at half time and they came back strongly. Only two minutes into the second half Lee Goodwin levelled the scores. A cross was put in by Pail Terry, which was headed by Goodwin into the left of the goal and right in front of the visiting supporters. (2-2)
A crucial moment in the game came when Yeovil had a goal disallowed for being offside, when really this seemed quite unfair. Oliver Brassart hit Michael McIndoe's lay-off perfectly into the far side of goal, and the celebrations continued for a while before anyone realised there was no goal. Dagenham fans celebrated too, for different reasons.
Dagenham took notice of this warning shot from Yeovil and they took the lead themselves for the first time in the game. On 77 minutes it looked as if they had sneaked a crucial victory. A brilliant volley from Jason Broom came back off the cross bar to be followed up by former Luton man Mark Stein who made no mistake in putting the ball away (2-3)
Yeovil were not disheartened and continued to press forward despite Dagenham's excellent defence thwarting them on many occasions. The introduction of Carl Alford had a positive effect in creating the Yeovil equaliser. He made his presence known and helped win the ball on a number of occasions. Nick Crittenden's cross fell to Chris Giles who headed back across goal and into the visitors net. (3-3)
In the time left both sides rallied forwards in true cup-style football, but not even five minutes of injury time allowed a winner to emerge. So the game ended all square, Dagenham return to the top of the table, but Yeovil can be pleased with a performance against one of the conferences top teams, and build on this in future matches.
